It seems that Olympic 14 time gold medal swimmer Michael Phelps goes to my pool.
WHAT???
You heard me, and you heard me right! Here's the story:
Last Saturday morning, ho-hum, I went to the pool I joined about three weeks ago to do my laps. Business as usual, I toss my stuff down next to a lane, put on my swim cap, and head on down to the other side of the (Olympic sized) pool to the kick board bin. On my way, I pass this group of swim team kids doing a land workout, and right smack in the middle of the group is this tall guy, in a speedo, who resembles Michael Phelps. So I'm staring at him, trying to dust the fog off of my eyes and figure out if it's really him and he's staring right back at me like, "you know it's me."
Now, I don't really trust my judgement, but I know it just has to be him. He practices somewhere in Baltimore. This is Baltimore- check. His (and Katie Hoff's) blown up photos are plastered all over the wall, the pool is home to the Michael Phelps swim school, and they even sell suits printed with the logo.
*Side note- My brain is furiously working these details over, and my body is kind of in auto mode. I usually do this oh-so-graceful jump in, streamline, push off, and go pool entry. Today is no different- but the depth of the pool where I'm entering is! It's the shallow end, and I skin my knees- loser. "Way to be graceful and I hope I'm not bleeding" I think to myself. I wasn't bleeding, but I've got two matching braised knees to show for it. How embarrassing- I'm not 7.*
This Michael Phelps-esque person leaves the deck a few minutes after I started so I couldn't stare the whole time- bummer. On my way out I see what's got to be his navy Beemer with sponsor tags and I just know it's him! But my pool? Mine? Really?
I get home and do a bit of research and find out that lo' and behold, the NBAC (North Baltimore Aquatic Club) which practices at this particular pool is the same team that reared him. He's also rumored to have purchased the swim club. AND his photos are all over their facebook page.
So no big deal everybody, but MICHAEL PHELPS goes to my pool! Talk about motivation to keep going back:)

AND...now I know who to complain to about their untidy vacuuming habits. Seriously. Who wants to swim with hairballs floating by- disgusting.
I don't know. I would have to lose quite a bit of weight before I would even let that be my excuse to head to the pool!

The only celebrity I ever saw up close was Michael Douglas, and he isn't worth staring at.

Amy- Um...well, I guess so. I was really just scrutinizing his face in the split second stare trying to place him! (And if you ask me, he is a bit goofy looking).

This is a crazy story! You are SO going to run (or swim) into him again, I just know it! That is SO FREAKING COOL!!
