Made: Another Herringbone Cowl + Pictures of Our House.

Yup that's right.  I know it's the summer, I'm not crazy.  As I stated in this post, this is the very same cowl pattern that I found very tricky before.  Determined not to let it defeat me (and maybe I am crazy after all) I made another one in Cascade Eco Cloud (a delightfully soft blend of undyed merino & alpaca) as a gift for my Aunt who hosted our wedding reception this past weekend (more on that soon, I promise!).

As a bonus since I have so much to share with you all, I thought I'd show off a house project I'm pretty proud of both the result & finally getting done:

Back in mid-June I talked about how we had stacks of art everywhere waiting to get hung, and my plans for this lovely art collage.  I attempted to build a shape that both looks good now and is also dynamic enough so that we can add and subtract as we get more art.

Some of you have asked where this area actually is in our home: it's between the front room & kitchen on the main level.  It's sort of the hallway between the two & the landing to the stairwell but in open format.  Here's a pictorial idea of the layout:

Our front room/ entry to our home (BEFORE we cleaned up!)

That room leads into the hallway/ stairwell landing/ art gallery wall.

Which leads into the kitchen. (Way cluttered photo just after I painted).

So there you have it.  Hopefully once we finish everything I can shoot some photos that better illustrate this!

Question: What have you been working on lately?

It looks great! The shape is so interesting, you'll be able to add and subtract pieces until the cows come home.

And adding the pictures of the layout really helped, ha ha. I was one of the confused people. :-)

Love that cowl! I think I will have to make one as well (did I say that before?).
And your art wall is lovely! I am in the process of making one in our living room as well! Love your home, thanks for sharing!

Dude. Your house looks AMAZING. You guys did such a great job. I seriously can't believe that's Baltimore! And your cowl is super cool. Did anyone tell you that its 100 degrees out ;) I will definitely DEFINITELY be getting one from you in the winter. And because you're practicing so hard now, I know it won't be hard anymore!

I can't even look at anything warm and wooly at this point. Don't take it personally--I'm just so freaking HOT. Ugh. Went camping last weekend though! ;)

LOVE the art layout!! That's tough to do and you did an excellent job of balancing size and color, etc. Can you come do that at my house please???

I love the art wall....very nice. Did you lay it all out on the floor first. I agree with Lin, those art walls are tough to do...lots of measuring I am sure. I have been spending a lot of time out gardening and doing yard work lately. Gotta get out there while the weather is nice!

Nancy, I love your art gallery wall! I want to do the equivalent with photos in our large stairwell, but am going to use those narrow shelves you can get from IKEA so that the picture frames sit on the shelf and you can swap them out. But first we have to paint the stairwell!
