Well, since I've been pretty restricted in activity lately, I've not made anything much this week. I'm heartbroken about it, and have been dreaming of my return to sewing! However, I do have a few projects in various stages of conception/ execution hanging around my desk that I was working on before all of this mess happened, so here' goes:
#1: I started the first knitting project of the season! I never like knitting during the warmer months; it just doesn't feel right. That makes the first project of the season all that much more special, and this one is pretty special to begin with.
My niece (8) designed that purse in the picture above for me to make for her. She approved the yarn colors as well, and I finally got the body knitted up. I know the color scheme is a bit atrocious, but you certainly can't alter the dreams of a 3rd grader!
#2: A revisiting of my most frustrating & loathed Project Sewing 101 piece- the quilted placemat. Man it was a rough learning curve for me on those bindings. But, back in June when my mother in law was visiting she saw them, loved them, and requested a set of her own! Again, who am I to crush the dreams of an admirer?? So, I set to work. And you know what I found out? It's much easier and quicker to do binding when you already know how. No frustrations this time, imagine that! I finally got this set of 8 shipped off to her for her birthday present last weekend.
And finally, I've been using my time away from my desk to purchase fabric and patterns online and plot out future projects! Here's a sneak peak at some of what I've bought:
A set of 4 patterns- bow tie, suspenders, necktie, and vest from Hadley Grace Designs. Gonna make some little boys look really sharp for the holidays!! So excited about this:)

She's 8 and she's already designing her own purses? Wow. Creative talent definitely runs in your family.
That's so great that the place mats came along easier this time...they look great! I bet your MIL is happy :)
I can't wait to see all the new projects you have planned. The little boy clothes are adorable and that scarf looks SOOO soft!
So many fun project! Your niece's purse is adorable. Kids like the crazy color combos! The little man patterns are so fun. I am sure you will have a blast matching fabrics. The fingerless gloves are fabulous.
That is cute your niece designed it lol, how sweet :)
I think the purse is wonderful -- and the colors make it fun! I've done some requested things for Noli too; it's awesome to see what kids come up with! Love the little boy's outfit and those fingerless gloves! And, wow, 8 more placemats! They look great!
What a sweet gift you are making for your niece! She will love it! :)
The placemats turned out great! You have lots of projects in the works so it seems you're going to have a busy fall!
The purse looks great, I'm sure your niece will love it. The placemats look amazing. So glad to hear they were easier this time around. And I can't wait to see the future projects.
Hey Nancy, I think that purse is cool and I like the colors--quite fun!
Your placemats are awesome! Your MIL will love them!
the cowl is so pretty!
You've chosen some great projects!
I hope you are well on the mend and will soon be doing the things you love.
Are you telling me something here????
I love the placemats. To me, I don't see anything wrong. The bowtie and suspenders are very cute - sharp dresser, for sure. I'm just excited about challenges and making art in my journal. I keep thinking, I need to cut more paper up wrapped beads, but nothing is selling and I don't care. Yes, I said it! {:-D
Those dreaded placemats!! Your binding really does look fantastic though.
I love the placemats! It's so great when a project turns out well the second time around. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better, too. Soon you'll be back to your old self!
Yay for new projects! I know that your MIL will love the placements. It's great when projects go so much more quickly the second time around. The little kid patterns look like they will be a blast.
Your niece sounds a lot like my 8-year-old granddaughter. I'm sure she'll enjoy her bag. LOVE your patterns! The little boy dress up accessories are just the cutest.
We'll be anxious to see your new projects come to life.
P.S. The placemat binding mitered corners are PERFECT!!!
I love when kids express their own style! Actually I think those colours look great together :) What a wonderful bag!!
And a beautiful and useful gift to your MIL :)
I had to laugh when you said the color scheme of the purse was atrocious. Heh, I remember some of my own daughters' ideas about fashion! But she'll love it. :)
I think the purse is super fun, and very stylish for a 3rd grader. Looks like you found some great patterns, and will soon have lots of great projects in the works.
