Made: Project Sewing 101- Mouse Cat Toy.

This week I started the final chapter in my Project Sewing 101 book, Blockhead Animals.  The first project is supposed to be a mouse pincushion, teaching how to sew and stuff a basic pyramid form.  I already have a pincushion I like, so I decided to stuff it with catnip and modify it into a cat toy.

This project seemed easy enough, but when I finished and flipped it inside out I realized I wasn't as precise as I had hoped; the face isn't quite positioned where I would have wanted and the head is a bit wonky where the seems meet at the top there.

However, It was a pretty good try, I think, and very cute.

Lucy doesn't seem to mind either;)  As soon as I started stuffing the catnip & polyfill, she somehow knew and came immediately over to supervise.

I still think it's adorably cute! Yeah, I don't think cats mind much: sometimes my cats get their 'nip in a plain canvas bag, but it's good enough for them! ;)

Nancy -

Love the cute mouse! My Miss Penny Cat will only play with hand crocheted or hand knit toys with or without catnip. I have sewn for her and purchased many a toy, both with and without cat nip, over the years and she will not touch them. Only the crocheted or knitted ones! Mom thinks its because my scent is on them! I just made her bon-bons recently, before that? 5 different kinds of Sushi. Before that? Sardines! The sardines are three years old and she STILL plays with them!

I think that is a good lesson to get "Points" on your triangle. I think you have to clip the seam allowance pretty close and stick something pointy and sharp in there to get those corners to be sharp.

Either way, that guy is gonna get all beat up, right? ;) Looks like Lucy has plans for that mousie!

I don't understand catnip but it seems to work wonders. I'm sure Lucy is glad you made it. Great switch idea. {:-D

I'm sure that the kitties are able to look right past the imperfections! Cute idea.

As soon as I saw the picture I thought, "Oh please fill that with catnip for the kitty!"

The wonkiness makes your catnip toy even more special--really! It's tricky sewing triangular shapes like that.
