Last week I revealed our messy, haphazard front room in various states of disarray:
I also mentioned how we decided to buckle down and finish this room to finally transform it into the functional entryway/ living room/ studio space that we've been envisioning for a few years. Well, in just a week, we've managed to finish a few key projects and take the room to near completion:
What's new?
Before:
After:
1. The Curtains. I finally got rid of those brown batik printed curtains that I made in as the hubby so lovingly calls, "my teenage years of sewing." That was back when I apparently didn't realize that you had to make the rectangle of fabric larger than the actual window so that it would function. Anyway, I found gorgeous grey and white satiny fabrics and paneled them out to make wide stripped to floor drapes. Much classier, wouldn't you say?
Before:
After:
2. Coat Rack. We've been piling our coats over a table in here ever since I finished painting. It's been an annoying mess! Hubs had the brilliant idea to go to a salvage store in our neighborhood, find an old board to clean up, and pick up a couple of coat hooks to finally get something sturdy, our style, and as big as we needed up on the wall in our entryway. Isn't it gorgeous? He's so handy.
Before:
After:
3. Coffee Table Centerpiece. I really wanted to remove the old color scheme from this room entirely to move on to a black, white, and grey theme. We had a gift card to Pier 1, so I picked up this porcelain tray, these pudding glasses, and some votives thanks to someone else's bank account. (Don't you love that??) I surrounded the votives with coffee beans, a trick I saw somewhere online but can't quite remember where. They not only look amazing, but smell amazing too!
I think the final effect is pretty stunning. We're still in the market for a new black and white or grey and white graphic/ geometric print rug to replace old one. But, that fix doesn't come cheap, so it will have to wait. But for now, I'm really happy with the look of the room and all we were able to accomplish!

It looks so great! You picked some really smart things to change, because they make such a huge difference. My favorites are the coat rack and the curtains.
Nice changes. Your place looks awesome. I'm slowly trying to make changes to our apartment. We have dark furniture so I'm thinking of a way to brighten it up. Also, thanks for including my handbag in a treasury!

The curtains turned out beautifully, and I love the votive centerpiece! Your husband did a great job with the coat rack. I'm sure that you're appreciating that every day this time of year.
Stunning! I love the colors, and you did a wonderful job on those curtains! I beat that centerpieces smells delicious :)
The curtains, coffee beans, pillows, hooks, b&w photos, and black stairs look great together. I love those stairs! We have a coat rack on the wall near our front door, but now it's out of reach, since I put something in front of it! Ay! {:-D
Watching your redo is more fun than HGTV. Love all the little details. And your bold new curtains are great!
You guys did an amazing job with the space! No excuses now for not neatly hanging the coats. The curtains are fabulous!
Very Nice, Nancy...a job well done! Its so nice to get those things organized and off the to do list.
Oh, how lovely! I love the fact that you have outgrown your "teenage years of sewing", I had to laugh aloud when I read that you didn't realize that you had to make the rectangle of fabric larger than the actual window so that it would function!

Fabulous fixes! Isn't it amazing how little stuff like that makes the biggest change?!
We just had our family room painted (nearly the same color--just freshened up) and it feels soooo good to go in a clean and fresh room. Like you, I have to find a new rug. They are hard to find sometimes.
It looks lovely and very welcoming. I especially love the way your cat has managed to get in on almost all the photos too!
Lovely re-design! Everything seems so much more organized. I especially love the new table center piece!
Nancy, your living space looks so clean, organized and harmonious. Love how one of your kitties managed to sneak into the photo too :)
Your chosen colour theme is exactly the ones my hubby prefers!

the kitty gives a great finishing touch as well!
the curtains are definitely classy! And I love your new salvaged wood coat rack!
It's amazing how just a few touches here and there make a difference. I love your coffee table centerpiece, and the coat hook addition is a super idea, too.
